Frankincense Country

Oman is one of the more traditional countries in the Gulf region. Occupying the south-east corner of the Arabian Peninsula, it has a strategically important position in the mouth of the Gulf. Oil is the mainstay of it's economy but Oman is renowned for its frankincense, a scented gum that is obtained from a desert shrub. Oman has an ancient sea trading tradition, and for centuries, was famed for the export of frankincense.
